The Ethiopian town of Harar named a town square after Karlheinz Böhm, Founder of Menschen für Menschen in Ethiopia. During the opening ceremony, Lord Mayor Arif Mohammed pointed out that "it was in this region, that Karlheinz Böhm started his project work 27 years ago to improve the living conditions of millions of people. To name this square after him is but a modest recognition of his immense achievements with regard to Ethiopia’s economic development".

The newly designed town square is situated in the center of the medieval town that was declared a World Heritage Site by Unesco in 2006. Harar has an estimated number of 131.000 inhabitants. Menschen für Menschen set up the Agro Technical Training College (ATTC) in Harar, a key project that offers a qualified technical training to young Ethiopian people and thereby a chance for economic self-development.
