Nagaya (peace) is the name of the first Menschen für Menschen village in Ethiopia – a symbol that Menschen für Menschen also sees aid as peace work. Our information magazine of the same name, the Nagaya Letter, is published four times a year.

With the construction of wells and spring tappings close to villages, Menschen für Menschen has provided hygienic living conditions. Our achievements: 1,121 watering places, 43 irrigation plants and 65 water reservoirs.

The preservation and regeneration of the soil is one of our basic tasks. Ecological sustainability and increased income create a secure livelihood. Our achievements: 79.3 million saplings planted for afforestation, 28,995 km terraces and embankments constructed against erosion and farming courses for 40,130 participants.

The consequence of inadequate medical care is that even otherwise harmless illnesses can be lethal. We confront this plight with intensive advanced training programmes for doctors and nurses, and the construction of hospitals. Our achievements: 78 medical centres, 4 outpatients’ clinics, 3 hospitals and major HIV education campaigns.

Women are worst affected by the country’s poverty. With education campaigns against harmful traditions, further education and the granting of personal loans we help to improve the situation of women. Our achievements: 9,267 personal loans given to women, further education programmes for 25,449 women participants, abolition of early marriages and female genital mutilation in all project regions.
