All over the world the question of how optimum educational opportunities can be created is repeatedly the subject of socio-political discussions. It is also clear to the people of Ethiopia that development is not possible without. Although there has been an increase in the number of state primary schools, there are still far too few of them. Today it is estimated that 54% of approx. 19 million children of school age have no access to education.
The awareness that education generates economic and social progress in the long term plays an important role for Almaz and Karlheinz Böhm's Ethiopia Relief, which attempts to close the gaps where they are largest. Since 1981 Menschen für Menschen has built and equipped schools for whole generations of children. These schools were built in poverty-stricken regions where the educational facilities were either non-existent or in the form of dilapidated, dark huts that were much too small and lacked even benches for the children to sit.
Menschen für Menschen enables children to learn in their familiar surroundings and in humane conditions. Thousands of them now have better prerequisites for their start into an independent life. The fun and ambitions of young people are a source of hope.
