58-year-old Ahmed Ibru can hardly believe his success. In the truest sense of the word:
20 years ago the former semi-nomad arrived from a hunger camp in the eastern Ethiopian Erer Valley, the first project region of Menschen für Menschen, and settled as a farmer. Since then he has had countless discussions with Karlheinz Böhm – primarily about better cultivation methods, so that he and his family can live from the produce. With the aid of a diesel pump that enables him to irrigate his fields outside the rainy season, he now harvests so many tomatoes that he can drive more than four truckloads to market. With the profits he can not only support his family – in future he may even be able to make a big dream come true: his own truck.
