Upon completing a 2-year course of study at the Agricultural College in Awassa, Almaz Böhm was hired by Menschen für Menschen in 1986 as department head for cattle breeding in the Erer project region. In May 1987 she made the acquaintance of Karlheinz Böhm.
The first mutual child of Almaz and Karlheinz Böhm, Nicolas, was born in December 1990 in Addis Ababa. This was followed by a wedding on 16 November 1991 in Graz, Austria. Daughter Aida was born in February 1993.
Almaz Böhm has been a member of the Menschen für Menschen Foundation since 1995. At the Members’ Meeting / Meeting of the Board of Trustees in 1999 she was unanimously appointed deputy chairman and since 1 January 2004 she has been Chairwoman of the Board of Trustees. She is the closest adviser to Karlheinz Böhm and will be his successor when he is no longer able to personally attend to the foundation’s affairs.
